What is Joint Pain?
Joint pain is described as pain, discomfort, or inflammation coming from any part of a joint. This includes bone, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, or muscles.
However, the most common pain is from arthritis or arthralgia. Reportedly, over 15 million people experience severe pain, according to the Center for Disease and Control.
Joint pain is normal. It often ranges from mild, severe, or extremely painful, making it difficult for even limited movement. Unfortunately, there is no telling how long pain may last. Many report pain subsiding within a few weeks. However, some say it takes months.
What Causes Painful Joints?
There is a wide variety of conditions that lead to painful joints. However, the most common conditions are as follows:
- Osteoarthritis
- Post-Traumatic Arthritis
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Gout
- Paget’s Disease

However, conditions are not the only cause of painful joints. An additional cause of joint pain is from an injury. If you are experiencing an injury, speak to your healthcare professional to find relief.
