Spinal Compression Fractures
Vertebral Compression fractures are the most common type of back fracture affecting the spine. A compression fracture of the vertebra causes the bone to collapse in height. As a result, patients experience pain, limited mobility, height loss and spinal deformity (kyphosis). Although, in some cases, part of the vertebrae may protrude into the spinal canal. Thi puts pressure on the spinal cord and nerves.
If bones are weak, your vertebrae aren’t sturdy enough to support your spine in your everyday activities. Therefore, when you miss a step, bend over to lift an object, or slip on a carpet, you can put your spinal bones at risk of fracture. Surprisingly, even coughing or sneezing can cause compression fractures if you have severe osteoporosis.
